Ian moved from his native Northern Ireland to Glasgow in 1992, where he has been living and working ever since. Ian began his career in Art over 10 years ago, when he embarked on an HND in Art and Design at North Glasgow College. During this time he was awarded the End of Year Student Award for both years.

Ian has completed several years of night classes studying life drawing and oil painting at both the Glasgow School of Art and the Tramway. He is a member of the Transmission Gallery in Glasgow.

The majority of Ian's recent work has been inspired by the city of Glasgow and other Cityscapes. He is a varied artist, working in various mediums, such as Oil, Acrylic, Ink, Lino Cut and Transfer. He is currently undertaking a series of Cityscapes using Acrylic paints and an ink wash on paper.

Ian has a unique and abstract style on the Acrylic and Ink Cityscape paintings that capture the vibrancy of the cities that he visits. The work is perfect for businesses, both corporate or private. The work can be purchased in many sizes. Other work includes oil paintings, especially his work on Paddy's Market in Glasgow.

Transfer Paintings

Ian uses his own photographs of places of interest as a basis for these paintings. When printed on coloured paper, the photograph is then glued onto canvas. When dried, the back layer of the paper is rubbed off showing a negative image on the canvas. This is then worked on with oil paint, resulting in a unique and aged look.

Ian is at ease working with various mediums. Please feel free to enquire if you have a specific style of work that you would like commissioned.

I am happy to give estimates on work of various sizes and materials used. All work is supplied unframed and unmounted, although mounting can be arranged by request for a small additional fee.

All original artwork within this website is for sale. Please contact ian@brokenbrushes.com for a price list and information.

Block Mounting

Block mounting offers a modern twist on traditional framing methods. It is also less expensive than purchasing original artwork.

A high gloss print of the chosen art work is 'mounted' directly onto ½ board without an edge, as opposed to being framed in the traditional manner. It is then laminated for a clean and modern finish. The end result is similar to an unframed stretched-canvas painting. All work is completed by a professional framer.
